~~In Through the Looking Glass, the White Queen explains to Alice that the advantage looking glass people have in living backward is that, "One's memory works both ways." To this, Alice replies, "I'm sure MINE only works one way. I can't remember things before they happen." And the White Queen responds dismissively, "It's a poor sort of memory that only works backward."
