~~Night of the Rain-Falling Tree
~~The common rain had come again
Slanting and colorless, pale and anonymous,
Fainting falling in the first evening
Of the first perception of the actual fall,
The long and late light had slowly gathered up
A sooty wood of clouded sky, dim and distant more and more...

~~Sea Surface Full of Clouds
collage 8" x 11"
2002
...The sea-clouds whitened far below the calm
And moved, as blooms move, in the swimming green
...And sometimes the sea
Poured brilliant iris on the glistening blue.
...Then the sea
And heaven rolled as one and from the two
Came fresh transfigurings of freshest blue.

~~"I see nobody on the road," said Alice. "I only wish I had such eyes," the King remarked in a fretful tone.
"To be able to see Nobody! And at that distance too!
Why, it's as much as I can do to see real people, by this light!"
~Lewis Carroll "Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There"

~~Beneath a Momentary Sky
collage 8" x 11"
c 2003
~~The look of things has a great power over me. Even now, I have to watch the rooks beating up against the wind, which is high, and still I say to myself instinctively "What’s the phrase for that?” and try to make more and more vivid the roughness of the air current and the tremor of the rooks wing slicing as if the air were full of ridges and ripples and roughnesses. They rise and sink, up and down as if the exercise rubbed and braced them like swimmers in rough water. But what a little I can get down into my pen of what is so vivid to my eyes, and not only to my eyes; also to some nervous fiber, or fanlike membrane in my species.

~~"Dear, dear! How queer everything is to-day! And yesterday things went on just as usual. I wonder if I've changed in the night? Let me think: was I the same when I got up this morning? I almost think I can remember feeling a little different. But if I'm not the same, the next question is 'Who in the world am I?' Ah, that's the great puzzle!
"... I'll stay down here! It'll be no use their putting their heads down and saying 'come up again, dear!' I shall only look up and say 'who am I, then? Tell me that first, and then, if I like being that person, I'll come up; if not, I'll stay down here till I'm somebody else."

~~Häagen-Dazs Remnants ~ the dramatic image produced by the remains of Mayan Chocolate ice cream in the bottom of a bowl.
~~Supernova Remnants
~ the dramatic objects produced by the violent explosion of a massive star at the end of its life. Eventually, the remnants cool and collapse to form interstellar clouds from which new stars and planets can be formed. Perhaps the most famous and best-observed is this one - SN 1987A - the newly formed remnant of a supernova in the Large Magellanic Cloud.
